Born-again To A Living Hope

1 Peter 1:3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

Brothers and sisters, before Christ came into your life, what did you put your hope in?  What did you pursue to give your life value?  What did you seek to make you happy?  What did you do to feel good about yourself?  What did you do to look good in front of others?  What did you put your faith and trust in?

I struggled with addiction my whole life.  Since the age of twenty-two, I completed seven treatment programs for alcohol and drugs in the states of New York, Minnesota, Illinois, and Arizona.  I spent twenty-three years in and out of 12-step programs like AA and NA.  Each time I was willing to surrender my addiction, but I didn’t know that I needed to surrender my pride, my lust, and my greed.  At the end of an AA meeting we would circle up and say the Lord’s prayer—but how can you have a Lord’s Prayer without a Lord? What Have You Been Delivered From?

What has the LORD delivered you from?  What have you been delivered to?

When the Holy Spirit made His home in me five years ago, I had a sudden awareness that Jesus is Lord; that Jesus is my Savior; that I was forgiven, and I had passed from death to life.  I grew in understanding and realized that the Holy Scriptures revealed to me the true condition of my heart in order for me to see my need for salvation.

I came to the knowledge that the cross of Christ wasn’t a revelation of my sin but a revelation of my value to my Father in heaven.  Jesus, the risen Christ, provided the ultimate act of love–one man dying for another; cleansing me and reconciling me back to my heavenly Father, that I may know Him and know life, destroying the works of the devil. Obedience Is Rooted In Love Of God

Luke 6:46

46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?”

You were created to be a lover.  We are wired to love God.  Do you recognize His grandeur?  His majesty?  His authority?  His wisdom?  His tenderness?  If you are not loving God you are loving someone or something else–who or what are you loving?

Have you claimed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?  Do you find comfort in His laws and commandments?  Do you find joy in following His instruction?  Is obedience something you want to do or have to do?

Psalm 19:7-11

The law of the Lord is perfect,
    reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
    making wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
    rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
    enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord is clean,
    enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
    and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
    even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
    and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.

You have been set free from your performance (self-righteousness) that you may trust in a Person (righteousness).  Do you love Him?  Do you delight in Him?  Then trust in Him.  You will find great joy in following and serving Him.  Walk with the faith of a child and see your desire to obey the Lover of your soul.

Love God!  Love God!  Love God!

Luke 10:27

27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

Do this and you will live.

We Are Overcomers In Christ Jesus

“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”

Overcoming the giants (shame, fear, lust, greed, pride) of this world is freedom over the lies, false beliefs, selfish desires, and demonic bondage binding every soul who does not know God.

Who is an overcomer?  Christ Jesus!  And all who believe in Him…  all who believe in Him obey Him; all who obey Him surrender to His will; all who surrender to His will and submit to His lordship overcome the world, the flesh, and Satan. Continue reading “We Are Overcomers In Christ Jesus” »

More Light, Lord

2 Corinthians 10:4-5

For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

God gave us divine weapons–love and truth, and together they form light.

Behold, the life of Christ is the light of men.

It is faith in Christ that activates the light, enabling us to believe and share the gospel; empowering us to speak life into souls.

It is prayer that releases the light–sowing seeds of love and truth with power from on high.

We Need God, Then We Want God

Man has three basic spiritual needs.

  • Security – being loved and accepted
  • Value – being valued; desired; we need to be wanted
  • Purpose – A life of meaning, significance; if your life does not bring meaning to the lives of others, it is empty and grows tiresome.

Before I knew the love of God I tried to create value through purpose in order to gain security.

Before I knew the love of God I tried to create value (being something to someone), through purpose (my performance), in order to gain security (love and acceptance). Continue reading “We Need God, Then We Want God” »
